beehiiv Connection Guide with Mangobeds
2 min read
The beehiiv integration connects your property to your publication, so every guest who books becomes a subscriber automatically, with your welcome email if you want one.
Who beehiiv is for
There is a difference between a property that sends campaigns and a property that publishes. The coliving with a monthly letter about the town it sits in. The retreat centre writing about the practice rather than the rooms. The surf house that reports the swell.
Those are publications, and people read them because they are worth reading. beehiiv is built for that, with growth tools, referrals and paid tiers, and it is a genuinely different product from a marketing platform with a newsletter feature attached. If your property has a real publication behind it, this is the one to connect.
What the beehiiv integration does
- Every confirmed booking adds the guest as a subscriber to the publication you choose.
- Optionally sends your welcome email the moment they are added, which for a publication is when they decide whether to keep reading.
- Your existing guests come across with one button in the app settings.
- Your subscribers are visible inside Mangobeds, with their status, so you can spot the pending and inactive ones.
- Nobody is reactivated. A guest who unsubscribed stays unsubscribed if they book again.
Step by step: connect beehiiv to Mangobeds
- In beehiiv, go to Settings, then Integrations, then API, and create a key.
- In Mangobeds, go to Apps > Email Marketing and pick beehiiv.
- Paste the key.
- Choose which publication your guests should join.
- Decide whether new subscribers should get your welcome email, then connect.
- Open Settings and run Sync guests now once to bring your existing guests across.
Two things worth knowing first
Names are not sent. A beehiiv subscription is an email address plus whatever custom fields you have created yourself, with no built-in first or last name. So unlike Mailchimp, MailerLite and Brevo, guest names are not synced. That is beehiiv’s data model rather than a gap in the integration, and it matters if you were planning to write “Hi {first name}” at the top of every issue.
Confirmation is your setting, not ours. Whether new subscribers have to confirm is configured on the publication itself in beehiiv, so this is the one integration where Mangobeds does not offer an opt-in toggle. Set it in beehiiv and it applies to guests we add too.
Frequently asked questions
Will a returning guest create a duplicate?
No. Subscribers are identified by email address, so a repeat booking does not create a second subscription.
Can this bring back someone who unsubscribed?
No. beehiiv has a reactivate_existing flag for exactly that and Mangobeds never sets it to true. A booking is not consent to start sending again.
Where do guests show up as coming from?
Subscribers added by Mangobeds carry a mangobeds UTM source, so you can see in your beehiiv dashboard how much of your growth came from bookings.
What happens if I disconnect?
New bookings stop being added. Everyone already subscribed stays subscribed, because the publication is yours.
beehiiv is one of four email tools Mangobeds connects to. See the overview of guest email marketing in Mangobeds to compare it with Mailchimp, MailerLite and Brevo.
