Connect Gemini to Mangobeds with MCP
3 min read
Gemini’s Custom apps feature can read your live Mangobeds data and answer questions about it in plain language, the same way Claude and ChatGPT do: no API key, just an address and a sign-in. For the background on MCP, or if you use a different tool, start with Connect Mangobeds to AI tools with MCP.
This guide is about the Gemini assistant at gemini.google.com and in its mobile app. It is not about Antigravity, Google’s separate coding editor, which connects with your API key and has its own guide.
Before you start
You need a Mangobeds account, and on Gemini’s side a bit more than a paid plan: Custom apps is a Google AI Pro or Google AI Ultra feature, on a personal Google account only, not a work or school one. You also need to be 18 or older, and for now Custom apps only works in English. If you are not eligible yet, Claude in your browser connects the same way with a lower bar: any paid Claude plan.
Add the Gemini MCP connector
- In Mangobeds, go to Apps > MCP and copy the MCP server URL at the top of the page.
- In Gemini, open Settings > Connected Apps and find Custom apps.
- Choose Add a custom app and paste the URL you copied.
- Click Next and follow the on-screen instructions.
- Gemini sends you to Mangobeds. Sign in if you are not already, and approve.
Gemini may offer an Advanced features section for a client ID and secret. Leave it empty: that is only for servers that cannot register themselves, and Mangobeds does, the same way it does for Claude and ChatGPT.
Choose what Gemini may do
The approval screen on Mangobeds asks two things:
- Which organization. If you belong to more than one, pick the one this connection is for. Gemini never sees the others.
- Whether it may make changes. Leave this unticked and Gemini can read everything and alter nothing. Tick it and it can also correct guest details, add a guest to a booking, and send one of your saved messages to a guest.
Approve, and Gemini sends you back connected. In a chat, type @ and choose Mangobeds from the menu, then ask “what properties do I have in Mangobeds?” to check. It should answer without you giving it an ID.
Changed your mind later? Connect again and choose differently. The new approval replaces the old one.
What you can ask
Gemini finds its own way around your account, so you never have to look up an ID. From there:
- Bookings: “Show the bookings checking in this week” or “Find the reservation for Maria Lopez”.
- Availability: “Which rooms are free next weekend?” or “What is my occupancy in August?”
- Blocked rooms: “Why is room 4 not bookable next Tuesday?” It tells a sold room from one you blocked, and shows the note you left.
- Prices: “What does the double room cost on 20 September?” or “Show me the seasonal rates on this room type.”
- Guests: “How many bookings has this guest had?” or “What did they put in the custom fields?”
- How Mangobeds works: Gemini can read these help guides, so “how do I set up seasonal rates?” is answered next to what your own rates actually say.
If you allowed changes, be deliberate about one of them: sending a saved message delivers a real email or WhatsApp to the guest. Everything Gemini changes is written into the booking’s activity with your name and Gemini’s, so you can always see who authorised what.
Managing and disconnecting
Your connection appears under Connected assistants on the Apps > MCP page, showing who signed it in, what it may do and when it was last used. Disconnect ends that one connection and leaves every other integration running. If you leave the organization, it stops working straight away.
If it does not connect
- Check you are eligible. Custom apps needs a Google AI Pro or Ultra plan on a personal account. It is not on the free plan, and work or school accounts cannot use it yet.
- Do not paste an API key. Mangobeds registers itself with Gemini automatically, so the Advanced features fields should stay empty.
- Type @ to bring up the app. Unlike Claude and ChatGPT, Gemini does not reach for a connected app on its own; you choose it from the @ menu in the chat.
- Check you actually approved. An approval screen closed without clicking Approve leaves nothing connected.
