PowerTranz Connection Guide with Mangobeds
3 min read
If you host in the Caribbean or Central America and your bank processes your card payments through PowerTranz, you can charge guests through it right inside Mangobeds. Guests pay on PowerTranz’s secure payment page, and Mangobeds marks the booking as paid the moment PowerTranz confirms it.
Before you connect PowerTranz (what you need)
- A merchant account with a bank that uses PowerTranz for online card payments. PowerTranz works through local banks, so your bank sets it up and sends you the credentials.
- Your PowerTranz ID and PowerTranz Password, plus the API URL they go with. All three come together when your account is activated.
- A hosted payment page set up in the PowerTranz Merchant Portal. You need its Page Set and its Page Name. The page must ask for the cardholder name and an email or phone number, because 3D Secure needs them.
- Prices in US dollars (USD) or Costa Rican colones (CRC). Those are the two currencies Mangobeds can charge through PowerTranz.
- Your Mangobeds property country set to one of the countries PowerTranz serves: Antigua and Barbuda, Anguilla, Aruba, the Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Bermuda, the British Virgin Islands, the Cayman Islands, Costa Rica, Curacao, Dominica, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Grenada, Guatemala, Guyana, Honduras, Jamaica, Nicaragua, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Maarten, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago, or the Turks and Caicos Islands. PowerTranz only appears in the provider list for those countries.
Heads-up: your PowerTranz Password is a secret. Anyone holding it can take payments on your merchant account, so treat it like any other password. Don’t share it over email or paste it into chat. Mangobeds stores it securely and never shows it again.
Test credentials or real ones?
PowerTranz has a test environment with its own ID, password and hosted page, and no money moves there. Its API URL is https://staging.ptranz.com/api. To take real payments, use the production credentials and the production API URL your bank gave you. When you are done testing, remove the test account and connect your real one.
How to set up PowerTranz in Mangobeds
- Go to: Property → Settings → Payments → Connect Payment Account.
- In Create a new payment account, choose PowerTranz as the provider.
- Paste your PowerTranz ID and your PowerTranz Password.
- Paste your Hosted Page Set exactly as it appears in the PowerTranz Merchant Portal, including the PTZ/ at the start, then your Hosted Page Name.
- Paste the API URL PowerTranz gave you.
- Tick the box confirming you’ve read this guide.
- Save to create the payment account, then Connect it to the property.
Mangobeds checks your details with PowerTranz before saving. It starts the smallest possible payment and stops before the card step, so nothing is charged, but a wrong ID, password, page set or page name shows an error straight away rather than on your first booking.
Heads-up: once a property is linked to a payment account, you can’t swap providers on that property without removing the connection first.
How a PowerTranz guest payment works
- Mangobeds opens your PowerTranz hosted payment page for the guest.
- The guest enters their card there, and their bank checks it’s really them with 3D Secure.
- PowerTranz sends Mangobeds the result. Mangobeds completes the payment, marks it as Succeeded and sends you the usual property notification email. A declined or failed payment is never marked paid.
Payments are captured straight away, so the money goes to your merchant account instead of being held on the guest’s card. This works for both ways of collecting money: the deposit a guest pays when booking through your booking form, and a payment link you send from a booking for the remaining balance.
Wrap-up
If you host in the Caribbean or Central America and your bank works with PowerTranz, your guests can pay where you already get paid, and nobody has to mark bookings as paid by hand. Paste in your credentials and your hosted page, save, and you’re live. Prefer something else? Tilopay covers most of the same countries.
