Nexi XPay Connection Guide with Mangobeds

3 min read

If you host in Italy, you can charge guests through Nexi XPay right inside Mangobeds. Connecting Nexi XPay takes one API key. Guests pay on Nexi’s secure payment page by card, or with any other method you have switched on in your Nexi account, and Mangobeds marks the booking as paid the moment Nexi confirms it.

Before you connect Nexi XPay (what you need)

  • An active Nexi XPay online payments contract, with access to Nexi Business and the XPay Back Office.
  • A Nexi XPay API key for your terminal (the steps are below).
  • Your Mangobeds property country set to Italy. Nexi XPay only appears in the provider list for Italian properties.

Where to create your API key in Nexi

  1. Log in to Nexi Business.
  2. Sign in to the XPay Web Back Office.
  3. In the Admin section, click APIKey.
  4. Click Add new APIKey, select your terminal and click Add.
  5. Copy the key.

Heads-up: the API key lets anyone holding it work with your Nexi terminal, so treat it like a password. Don’t share it over email or paste it into chat. Mangobeds stores it securely and never shows it again.

Test key or real key?

Nexi has a separate test environment with its own keys and test cards, where no money moves. To take real payments, use the key from your XPay Back Office and leave Test mode unticked. If you want a dry run first, tick Test mode and paste a key from Nexi’s test area; when you are done, remove that account and connect your real key.

How to set up Nexi XPay in Mangobeds

  1. Go to: Property → Settings → Payments → Connect Payment Account.
  2. In Create a new payment account, choose Nexi XPay as the provider.
  3. Paste your Nexi XPay API key. Leave Test mode unticked for real payments.
  4. Tick the box confirming you’ve read this guide.
  5. Save to create the payment account, then Connect it to the property.

Mangobeds checks the key with Nexi before saving, so a wrong key, or a test key with Test mode unticked, shows an error straight away rather than on your first booking.

There is nothing to configure on the Nexi side. Mangobeds sends its notification address with every payment, so you do not need to set one in the XPay Back Office.

Heads-up: once a property is linked to a payment account, you can’t swap providers on that property without removing the connection first.

How a Nexi XPay guest payment works

  • Mangobeds sends the guest to Nexi’s secure payment page.
  • The guest pays, and their bank runs the 3-D Secure check.
  • Nexi shows the guest the result, and Back to the shop brings them back to you.
  • Nexi notifies Mangobeds, and Mangobeds marks the payment as Succeeded and sends you the usual property notification email. A declined or abandoned payment is never marked paid.

Payments are captured straight away, so the money is in your Nexi account, not held on the guest’s card. This works for both ways of collecting money: the deposit a guest pays when booking through your booking form, and a payment link you send from a booking for the remaining balance.

Wrap-up

If you host in Italy and already take payments with Nexi XPay, connecting it to Mangobeds means your guests pay where you already get paid, and nobody has to mark bookings as paid by hand. Create an API key in the XPay Back Office, paste it in, and you’re live. Prefer something else? Stripe and Revolut also work for properties in Italy.
