Stripe Connection Guide with Mangobeds

3 min read

Stripe is the payment provider most Mangobeds properties use, and connecting it takes a couple of minutes with no keys to copy. Guests pay by Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Apple Pay or Google Pay on a checkout page they recognise, and the money goes straight into your own Stripe account. Mangobeds takes no commission on any of it.

Before you start

  • A Stripe account, or the details to open one. You do not need to sign up first. If you have no Stripe account, the connection flow creates it as you go.
  • Your business details. Stripe verifies every account: legal business name, address, the bank account you want to be paid into, and an ID document for the owner. Have them to hand, because the flow asks for them in one sitting.
  • A country Stripe operates in. Stripe decides this by where your business is registered, not by where your guests are.

How to connect it

  1. Go to Property → Settings → Payment Accounts → Connect Payment Account.
  2. Choose Stripe. Mangobeds sends you over to Stripe’s own onboarding.
  3. Sign in with an existing Stripe account, or create one on the spot, then fill in the business and bank details Stripe asks for.
  4. Stripe returns you to your property settings. The payment account is live once Stripe finishes verifying you, which is usually immediate and occasionally takes a day.

The account belongs to you, not to us. You log into dashboard.stripe.com with your own credentials, and you can see every payment, payout and dispute there.

Heads-up: if you leave halfway through Stripe’s onboarding, the payment account exists but stays switched off. Open it again from the same screen and Stripe picks up where you stopped.

What guests can pay with

Mangobeds offers three kinds of Stripe payment, and you tick the ones you want under Organization → Payment Accounts → Edit:

  • Card. The default, and the one almost everybody uses. It covers the card brands your Stripe account supports, which in most countries means Visa, Mastercard and American Express, and often Discover, Diners, JCB and UnionPay too. Apple Pay and Google Pay ride along with it: they appear by themselves on a phone or browser that supports them, with nothing to switch on.
  • SEPA Direct Debit. Euro bank debits, useful for long stays where a card fee on a large amount hurts.
  • Bank transfer. The guest gets bank details to push money to. This one has to be enabled on your own Stripe account first, under Settings → Payment methods in the Stripe dashboard, and Mangobeds warns you if it is not.

Each flow uses the methods it can actually support, so bank transfer never shows up on the booking form itself, where a guest is expecting to confirm in one go. It appears on payment links and invoices, where waiting for a transfer makes sense.

How a guest payment works

  • Mangobeds sends the guest to Stripe’s hosted checkout with the amount and the booking it belongs to.
  • The guest pays, passing their bank’s 3D Secure check if one is asked for. A declined card can be swapped for another on the same page, and nothing is cancelled on your side.
  • Stripe tells Mangobeds, the payment on the booking turns to Succeeded, and you get the usual notification.
  • Refunds are issued from the booking in Mangobeds, in full or in part, and go back through Stripe to the original card.

What it costs

You pay Stripe’s published rate for your country, and nothing to us. Mangobeds charges a flat subscription and never takes a percentage of a booking, so a busy month costs you the same as a quiet one. Payouts land on Stripe’s own schedule for your country, straight into your bank account.

Wrap-up

Stripe is the quickest way to start charging guests in Mangobeds: no keys, no webhook to register, and a checkout with Apple Pay and Google Pay built in. If Stripe does not cover your country, the integrations directory lists every other provider we connect to, including Redsys in Spain, Mercado Pago and Bold in Latin America, Razorpay in India and Toss in South Korea.
