Nexi XPay Classic Connection Guide with Mangobeds

3 min read

If you host in Italy and your Nexi contract came with an Alias and a MAC key, you can charge guests through Nexi XPay Classic right inside Mangobeds. Guests pay on Nexi’s secure payment page, and Mangobeds marks the booking as paid the moment Nexi confirms it.

Nexi XPay or Nexi XPay Classic: which one is yours?

Mangobeds offers two Nexi options, and the right one depends on the credentials Nexi gave you:

  • An Alias and a MAC key: pick Nexi XPay Classic and follow this guide.
  • An API key: pick Nexi XPay and follow the Nexi XPay connection guide instead.

Before you connect Nexi XPay Classic (what you need)

  • An active Nexi XPay online payments contract.
  • Your Alias and MAC key. Nexi sends both once your XPay service is activated, in the welcome email. If you can’t find them, ask Nexi support.
  • Prices in euros. The classic Nexi payment page only takes payments in EUR.
  • Your Mangobeds property country set to Italy. Nexi XPay Classic only appears in the provider list for Italian properties.

Heads-up: the MAC key is a secret. Anyone holding it can sign requests for your Nexi account, so treat it like a password. Don’t share it over email or paste it into chat. Mangobeds stores it securely and never shows it again.

Test credentials or real ones?

Nexi’s test environment has its own Alias and MAC key, and no money moves there. Test credentials come from Nexi, so ask them if you want a dry run first. To take real payments, use your production Alias and MAC key and leave Test mode unticked. When you are done testing, remove the test account and connect your real credentials.

How to set up Nexi XPay Classic in Mangobeds

  1. Go to: Property → Settings → Payments → Connect Payment Account.
  2. In Create a new payment account, choose Nexi XPay Classic as the provider.
  3. Paste your Alias and your MAC key. Leave Test mode unticked for real payments.
  4. Tick the box confirming you’ve read this guide.
  5. Save to create the payment account, then Connect it to the property.

Mangobeds checks your Alias and MAC key with Nexi before saving, so a typo, or test credentials with Test mode unticked, shows an error straight away rather than on your first booking.

Mangobeds sends its notification address with every payment, so you do not need to set one in your Nexi account.

Heads-up: once a property is linked to a payment account, you can’t swap providers on that property without removing the connection first.

How a Nexi XPay Classic guest payment works

  • Mangobeds sends the guest to Nexi’s secure payment page.
  • The guest pays there, and Nexi brings them back to you when they are done.
  • Nexi sends Mangobeds the result, signed with your MAC key. Mangobeds checks that signature, marks the payment as Succeeded and sends you the usual property notification email. A declined, cancelled or pending payment is never marked paid.

Payments are captured straight away, so the money goes to your Nexi account instead of being held on the guest’s card. This works for both ways of collecting money: the deposit a guest pays when booking through your booking form, and a payment link you send from a booking for the remaining balance.

Wrap-up

If you host in Italy and your Nexi contract uses an Alias and a MAC key, Nexi XPay Classic lets your guests pay where you already get paid, and nobody has to mark bookings as paid by hand. Paste both in, save, and you’re live. Got an API key instead? Use the Nexi XPay guide. Prefer something else? Stripe and Revolut also work for properties in Italy.
